Abstract

A study was realized in a representative area of central Sardinia (the industrial district of Ottana-Bolotana) in order to evaluate the following aspects:
- the status of contamination by PTE and establish Pedogenic Background Concentration (PBC), the pedogenic concentration, some long PTE soil profiles;
- the possible effects on soils previously investigated due to the use of sewage sludge of domestic and industrial origin.
The data of the Agency for Environmental Protection and Technical Services (APAT) point out that in Italy were 50 contaminated sites of national interest (primarily industrial in nature), for a total of over 800,000 hectares, equivalent to more than 2% of Italian soil, of which 78% related to the soil. Indeed, the most affected region is Sardinia, where the areas expected to be reclaimed are more than 440,000 hectares.
