A method for culturing cells in vitro from the germinal layer of cysts from different animal donors was characterized by light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Best results were obtained with cultures from hydatid cysts of bovine origin which survived for up to 720 days. Cell cultures were further differentiated from bovine host cells by chromosome analysis and by histochemical staining and scanning electron microscopy.
