Abstract

Lake Baratz is the only natural lake of Sardinia. It is a eutrophic lake (Sechi e Cossu, 1980). In order to know its late history, a sediment core, from a littoral zone of lake, was sampled and freezed immediately. It was dissected in fifty-none sub-samples and every sample was treated according to Schrader (1973), to study sedimentary Diatomeae. The water content shows a normal behaviour whereas organic content shows a unusual trend. Cyclotella comta and Cocconeis placentula are the most important species quantitatively. The results assents to suppose that, when the deep subsamples have stored, the level of lake was lower than now. To confirm the present data, also with others parameters, futher studies will be make.
