Abstract

Objectives: In order to define a program of prevention and reduction of the risks to health workers and patients, a cognitive investigation was conduced in seven operating theatres of the Complesso Ospedali Riuniti-Università of Sassari to estimate the pollution degree from anaesthetic gases.
Methods: The nitrous oxide and forane determinations were carried out by means of a portable environmental analyzer.
Results: In each operating theatre the average anaesthetic gases concentrations were below the limit of N₂0 recommended by the Italian Ministry of Health. The forane concentrations were also result comparable to the values suggested in literature.
Conclusions: Although the obtained result were, on the whole, within the reference limits, it appear opportune to adopt adequate prevention methodologies and to supply to the application of regulations for the control of the environmental conditions and of medical staff.
