Abstract

This work describe the identification of a new papillomavirus strain (OvPV-3), associated to squamous cell carcinoma in sheep. The entire genome of OvPV-3 has been amplified by rolling circle amplification, characterized through restriction analysis, and cloned into pUC19. Partial sequencing revealed the presence of at least 5 orfs, two of them encoding for the known oncogenes E6 and E7. This is the first ovine papillomavirus isolated from squamous cell carcinoma. The virus is more similar to Alphapapillomavirus than to Deltapapillomavirus, even if it lacks a E5 orf.
