Signorello, Maria Gabriella (2012) Un'Analisi dello stereotipo in Eduardo De Filippo, Annibale Ruccello e Giovanni Testori. Doctoral Thesis.
The present research focuses on the stereotype and its occurrences in the works of Eduardo De Filippo, Annibale Ruccello and Giovanni Testori. A few plays have been analysed in the light of the stereotype as a means of simplification of reality, which, as a result, gives it the possibility to convey meaning more directly; starting from this perspective, the stereotype has been investigated in view of the dramatic effects the playwright wants to obtain by employing it in his dramatic work. The plays have been examined as works with a literary value, which, however, thanks to the peculiar status of the dramatic quality of speech, achieve the quality Umberto Eco has defined as "opera aperta". The authors selected have in common their being writers and actors at the same time; this peculiarity of their own makes the works under consideration extremely insightful and perceptive, so much so that some of them have become to some extent the stereotypes of a specific type of theatre and have created stereotyped characters or rather characters which could be easily reduced to stereotypes.
