Abstract

Marker-based movement analysis is frequently used in determining the lower limb joint kinematics of children with cerebral palsy (CP) during walking. Nevertheless, markers may cause uneasiness to the children and interfere with their natural walking patterns. They also require a set up phase, which inevitably increases the duration of a gait analysis session. To overcome such difficulties, a markerless approach is devised. However, markerless methods have not been routinely used in clinical practice due to a number of limitations. In this study we anticipate a 2-D hybrid approach which makes use of markerless methodologies and at the same time takes advantages of information readily available when underwear and socks are seen as “segmental markers”. The proposed hybrid method was compared with a marker-based method using a single acquisition system recording the same trials.
