Foddai, Lavinia (2011) Archeologia dei paesaggi antichi: la Piana di Torralba come laboratorio di analisi spaziale e informatica applicata ai Beni culturali. Doctoral Thesis.
Experimentation of new research guidelines in the plain of Torralba – which is the reference area for the well-known Nuraghe Santu Antine complex – is the last stage of a long academic route, focusing on a territory which still poses a series of historical and archaeological questions. It is a project based on landscape archaeology, directed to reconstruct the most ancient dynamics of settlers living in that particular area, in close connection with the environment and its resources. It consists of two main sections - the survey and the catalogue of the site - with a detailed introduction on the research route – and, therefore, on the reference methodology guidelines – followed by a description of former research studies on the archaeological and naturalistic aspects of the area. The last section, dedicated to ancient testimonies, recalls settlement-related events through a diachronic reading of said dynamics. Such interesting places have deeps roots in ancient times. The extra-ordinary heritage of settlement, funerary and cultural sites is a testimony to it, as it covers a wide time span, including several centuries between the Ancient Neolithic Era and the Early Iron Age: hypogean and dolmen tombs, nuraghi, villages, giant's tombs, worship buildings mark the settlers' passage and testify both the complex settlement pattern and the importance of the area for ancient communities.
