Abstract

In the past few years some species of the genus Alexandrium have caused harmful blooms in the Gulf of Olbia. In order to better understand patterns of cyst accumulation in the area, the granulometry of sediment has been mapped and dinoflagellate cyst abundance has been assessed in areas characterized by different granulometry. 37 dredgings were collected in 2005, and, on the base of sediment composition and the first cysts screening, a second sampling was performed at 6 selected stations in 2006. The highest cyst density and species diversity were detected in the innermost part of the Gulf and a significant correlation (r = 0.875; n = 6) was detected between the cyst densities and fine sediment (clay + silt).

Il Golfo di Olbia è stato interessato negli anni passati da fioriture dannose di specie del genere Alexandrium. Per comprendere le modalità di deposizione delle cisti di resistenza di queste specie ed altre possibili nocive, è stata effettuata la loro mappatura in relazione alla granulometria del sedimento caratterizzante il fondale del Golfo di Olbia. Nel 2005 è stato svolto un primo campionamento in 37 punti; nel 2006, sulla base dei primi risultati, è stato svolto un secondo campionamento su 6 stazioni selezionate. Le più alte densità e la maggiore varietà di specie sono state riscontrate nella parte più interna del Golfo, è stata inoltre riscontrata una correlazione significativa (r = 0,875, n = 6) fra la densità delle cisti e la percentuale di frazione fine del sedimento (clay + silt).
