Abstract

In order to analyse the effect of selected cytokinez and growth factors on the proccesses of development of the maxillary sinusem and bone remodelling in the maxilla of human embryos, a serie sof immunohistochemical reactions were used to evaluate the expression of: the system of metaloproteinases (MMPs) and their inhibitors (TIMP), bone morphogenitic protein 6 (BMP6) and transforming growth factor (TGFb).
Positive reactions were found for MMPs 1,2 and 3 in the mucosal epithelium of the developing maxillary sinuses in all examined embryos. A directly proportional dependency was found between the intensity of the reaction and the stage of development of the embryo.
It was confirmed that the effect of the epithelium on the formation of the maxillary sinuses depends on the presence of MMPs, which regulate the growth and remodeling of the extracellular matrix of the tissues.
