Abstract

The aim of this work is to study how the idea of person has gradually found its meaning in social work. After a short introduction in which the historical-philosofical, sociological and juridical approaches about the person are explained, the historical process which has determined the change from assistantship into social work will be closely examinated and the progressive process of helping the person in a professional way will be underlined, with the contemporary birth of modern social policies. The degree course in Social Work at the University of Sassari is indeed a testing bench representing the best place to observe how University, istitutional system and third sector interact. This represent the ideal sphere of the empirical research from the theoretical perspective of “trifocalità”. Is the ethics the main characteristic of the training? Practical training give us the opportunity of verifying the connection between theoretical/practical aspect and ethics/technic aspects in order to achieve a level in which the social work can be considered as a “science“ in helping the person.
