Abstract

The propositus was a newborn baby (#398) from the area of Sassari, North Sardinia. The Hb Lepore was detected by isoelectrofocusing (IEF) (14); the same abnormality was present in the mother (Fig. 1) but not in the father. Its initial identification was confirmed by cation exchange high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) (15) with a PolyCat column.
