Abstract

Two new Calleida species from Mexico are described and illustrated. Calleida georgii, new species (type locality: Mexico, Colima: El Terrero) is closely related to Calleida regina Bates, 1883, and forms with the latter a homogeneous pair of species, both characterized by the presence in both sexes of a high number of setae on the 7^th abdominal sternum. Both are markedly isolated from all other Calleida species known so far from Central America. Calleida kayae, new species (type locality: Mexico, Chiapas: Chicoasen) is superficially similar to Calleida cyanippe Bates, 1883, in size and color, and to Calleida metallica Dejean, 1825, in the presence of three (exceptionally two or four) setiferous punctures on each side on the 7^th abdominal sternum in the males. Based on the unique morphological features of both male and female genitalia, the phylogenetic relationships of this species remain unclear.
