Nieddu, Giovanni and Sirca, Costantino Battista and Chessa, Innocenza (2002) Evaluation of the phenological behaviour of two olive tree varieties. Advances in Horticultural Science, Vol. 16 (3-4), p. 138-143. eISSN 1592-1573. Article. Full text not available from this repository. DOI: 10.1400/14111 AbstractThe phenological behaviour of the olive varieties Bosana and Nera di Gonnos was studied from 1997 to 2000 in four areas of northern Sardinia characterised by different elevations. The lack of winter rest on the apical buds was observed in both varieties and the occurrence of flowering showed lower annual variation in the warmest area, where the olive tree is traditionally grown. The meteorological data of temperature and rainfall were acquired and correlated to the phenological phase observed. The results indicated the level of variability in the expression of the flowering and fruit colour change as affected by the environment. A linear relation between days of year and the calculated degree days was evidenced in the Bosana variety, thus showing the effect of climatic conditions as related to increasing elevation. The data obtained are also discussed according to a phenological model previously proposed for the climatic condition of northern Sardinia.
