Abstract

The coordination chemistry of simple catechols continues to be the object of extensive interest because of this ligand’s in-volvement at the active sites of biological chelators, e.g. sidero-phores. Low mo-lecular weight pigments known as tunichromes serve as complexing agents in the accumulation and storage of vanadium in some marine organisms. Over the years much effort has been devoted to characterizing vanadium-catechol complexes. Beginning with the pioneering work of R-senheim, the nature of the blue species formed b the interaction of V(1V) or V(V) with catechol has been studiedextensively.
