Rossi, Francesco (2009) Il Turismo culturale a Roma: analisi etnografica del contesto turistico Colosseo-Palatino. Doctoral Thesis.
AbstractThe work intends to analyse and describe from an anthropological standpoint the so-called “cultural” typology of tourism. The dissertation has been divided into four chapters. The first two chapters are theoretical and analytical and focus their attention on the basic themes of tourism anthropology and the possible anthropological definitions of cultural tourism. The third chapter describes the origins of tourism anthropology and pays particular attention on Rome-centred travel literature (tourist guides and travelogues.) The fourth chapter is dedicated to the ethnographic analysis of the Palatine Hill-Coliseum touristic set. A qualitative methodological plan has been applied to the ethnographic analysis. The chapter aims at underlining the work and human experience of the people who actually interact with tourists by retracing from an ethnographic point encounter dynamics, interactions, exceptional and routine aspects that are part of their work. A questionnaire has been adopted regarding the interaction with tourists visiting Rome.
